Landmark Study for Rare Earth Exploration at Motzfeldt

A recent independent industry review by Rare Earth Exchanges has described the peer-reviewed paper by Alba’s Dr Curtis Rooks on Greenland’s Motzfeldt system as a landmark study for rare earth and niobium exploration.

The research, led by Dr Rooks and published in Ore Geology Reviews, explains how natural geological processes can mobilise and reconcentrate rare earths and niobium, effectively upgrading parts of a mineral system over time.

For Alba, this matters because it sharpens our understanding of where value concentrates, how mineralisation evolves, and what that means for targeting, processing pathways and overall project design at Motzfeldt. It reinforces the importance of a science-led approach to exploration and de-risking before major capital decisions.

The review also underlines a broader reality for the sector: discoveries alone are not enough. Technical understanding and processing capability ultimately determine who controls critical mineral supply chains.
